Psychologists’ Association of Alberta awards 2005 Healthy Workplace Initiative Award to Associated Engineering

On May 13, Associated Engineering received the 2005 Healthy Workplace Initiative Award from the Psychologists’ Association of Alberta. “Associated Engineering was recognized for their outstanding contribution to the well-being and psychological health of their employees,” says Dr. Sally Barros, President of the Psychologists’ Association of Alberta.

Associated Engineering healthy workplace program builds on the company’s corporate culture which promotes employee growth and development, work-life balance, family values, health and wellness, and community involvement.

The company’s Wellness Operating Plan includes strategies for enhancing morale and attitude of staff, decreasing amount of sick leave, decreasing employee turnover, increasing the use of the company fitness allowance, and increasing participation in wellness. “These are all attributes of a healthy workplace,” adds Barros.

“This is an outstanding award for the staff of Associated Engineering and is a tribute to them. This success is a result of our staff embracing the wellness concept and developing the various programs that are an integral part of our Wellness Plan and help to create a healthy workplace,” says Alistair Black, Chairman and CEO of Associated Engineering.

Dongning Li receives the National Canadian Society for Civil Engineers P.L. Pratley Medal

Dongning Li, M.Sc. of our Calgary office received the Canadian Society for Civil Engineers P.L. Pratley Medal for her paper, “Thermal Design Criteria for Deep Prestressed Girders Based on Data from the Confederation Bridge”, co-authored by Professors Marc Maes and Walter Dilger. CSCE established the P.L. Pratley Medal in 1987. The medal is awarded annually to recognize the best paper prepared on bridge engineering.

Dongning obtained her Masters degree from the University of Calgary in 2003. Her research involved studying the thermal behaviour of prestressed concrete bridges. Dongning joined Associated Engineering’s Calgary office in 2003 as a Structural Engineer. She is currently working on water and wastewater projects. Dongning also has six years of structural design experience in the petroleum industry in China.
