Associated Engineering receives two Awards of Excellence from Consulting Engineers of Alberta Showcase Awards

L-R: Pat Given (AE), Lakshaman Samarasinghe (City of Edmonton), Steve Croxford (AE), Georgio Grappolini (Petro Canada), and Frank Vagi (Petro Canada) receive Award of Excellence for Gold Bar Wastewater Treatment Plant Industrial Water Reuse Facility.

The Consulting Engineers of Alberta recognized two Associated Engineering projects, the Gold Bar Industrial Water Reuse Facility and Associated Engineering’s in-house Wellness Program, at the 2006 Showcase Awards in February. The Gold Bar Industrial Water Reuse Facility received an Award of Excellence in the Natural Resources, Mining, and Industrial category and an Award of Merit in the Environmental category. Associated Engineering led the design and construction of Canada's largest membranebased, water reuse facility using treated wastewater effluent from the Gold Bar Wastewater Treatment Plant in Edmonton. The Gold Bar water reuse facility uses membrane filters to produce highquality recycled water, which is delivered to Petro-Canada for use as process water. This project is an Alberta-first for providing highquality reuse water as an alternative to river water, in this case, the North Saskatchewan River.

In making this award, judges commented, “This project defines sustainability and corporate responsibility.”

As Prime Consultants, Associated Engineering provided process design and project management services from feasibility planning to design, procurement, start up, and commissioning. For more information on the project, see article on page 3.

Associated Engineering also received an Award of Excellence in the Community Outreach/In-House Initiative category for our inhouse Wellness Program. Our Wellness Program builds on the company’s corporate culture, which promotes employee growth and development, work-life balance, family values, health and wellness, and community involvement.
