Associated Engineering receives two Awards at 2008 Consulting Engineers of Alberta Gala
The Consulting Engineers of Alberta (CEA) announced the winners of the 2008 CEA Awards at the Gala Celebration on February 1, 2008. Two of our projects, the E.L. Smith Water Treatment Plant On-site Sodium Hypochlorite Generation System and Whitemud Creek Arch, received Awards of Merit.
The E.L. Smith Water Treatment
Plant On-Site Sodium Hypochlorite
Generation System is a feasible
alternative to chlorine gas disinfection
that allows liquid chlorine to
be generated on-demand, thus
reducing the need to transport and
store large volumes of chlorine
on site. The system is safer for
workers and reduces environmental
risk associated with chlorine
transport and handling.
The Whitemud Creek Arch Structure was conceived as an alternative
to a more conventional bridge design; the introduction of an oculus
in the road median and minimized length of the structure provide
natural light for
wildlife passage and
pedestrians and
promote growth of
vegetation in the
creek bed below.
The arch was built
with minimal
disturbance to the
existing creek.
