Bert Munro presents Eleah Miller with the AE Scholarship |
Associated Engineering awards university scholarships
In the last issue of AE Today,
we announced that Associated
Engineering has established
university scholarships for
engineering students at five
major universities: University of
British Columbia, University of
Alberta, University of Calgary,
University of Saskatchewan,
and University of Toronto.
We are very pleased that, in
cooperation with the universities, we have made awards to the
following students to date:
• Mr. Xinyu Tony Jiang, Electrical Engineering, University of British
Columbia
• Mr. Scott McKean, Civil Engineering, University of Calgary
• Ms. Eleah Miller, Civil Engineering, University of Saskatchewan
• Ms. Najwa Azer, Chemical Engineering, University of Toronto
Each of the scholarships is for $3000. Scholarships are awarded to
undergraduate engineering students who have completed their
second year of studies in engineering, and who demonstrate
academic excellence, leadership, and commitment to the community
and professional involvement.
Congratulations, Tony, Scott, Eleah, and Najwa!
Associated Engineering donates proceeds from fruit basket to
Breakfast for Learning
Over the past eighteen months the fruit basket in our Burnaby office
lunch room has generated $125. In November we donated this
money to Breakfast for Learning. Breakfast for Learning is committed
to ensuring that every child in Canada attends school well-nourished
and ready to learn. The link between nutrition and learning is well
established. Children who eat a healthy, balanced diet are more
energetic, attend school more often, and have longer attention spans
and better problem-solving skills.
Edmonton’s Hope Mission Christmas Drive
Last year Edmonton’s Hope Mission Christmas Drive raised $900.54.
The money was used to deliver 299 meals, 65 pairs of socks, 34
toques, and 47 pairs of gloves to homeless people at Christmas time.
In addition, Michelle Dufrat-Jarvis led a team who made up 60 gift
bags that included 1 tooth brush, 1 bar of soap, and 1 container each
of shampoo, conditioner, and hand cream. These bags were then
delivered to homeless people at Christmas.

Ontario’s Easter Food Drive
The Ontario offices participated in an
Easter Food Drive. Food and money
raised was donated to local food
banks on March 17th, prior to the
Easter holiday. The results of the
Food Drive were fantastic, with the
Toronto office raising 175 pounds of food and $194 in cash and the
St. Catharines office raising 144 pounds of food. Of the more than
75,000 people who rely on food banks nationally on a monthly basis,
34% of these are children.
Shown in photo at bottom of previous column are Toronto team
organizers Sharon Nicholson, Linda Wojcicka, Amanda Odsen, and
Tony Raposo. (Not shown St. Catharines organizer Kathy Capecchi).
