AE selected as one of the Best Employers for New Canadians

Associated Engineering has been selected as one of Canada's Best Employers for New Canadians, recognizing the efforts the company makes to ease the transition for staff from overseas. The company assists overseas candidates to obtain work permits and become permanent residents, provides training to help staff become acquainted with local design standards and codes, helps foreign-trained engineers obtain the work experience they need to gain their professional accreditation, and provides language training and communication courses.

Judges for the Best Employer for New Canadians Program advise, “Many internationallytrained engineers face difficulties practicing their profession in Canada. To obtain provincial licensure, engineers from abroad must acquire one year of Canadian work experience. As a result, engineers with international credentials find themselves at an impasse – unable to find work in Canada without a P.Eng. designation, but unable to obtain licensure without Canadian work experience. Associated Engineering addresses this dilemma by recognizing the credentials of new Canadian applicants during the recruitment process.”

Says Nazmun Nahar, Ph.D. Water Resources Engineering, “AE gave me the opportunity to become an active member of the engineering community of BC. In my last two years at AE, I have gained invaluable experience in water resources and have the opportunity to get acquainted with the ‘state-of-the-art’ technology.”

Vince and Carol Borch Anniversary in Mexico

Congratulations
Vince & Carol Borch

Congratulations to Vince and Carol Borch who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. Vince served Associated Engineering for 27 years and retired in May 2005. As President from 1990 and Chairman of the Board from 1996, Vince was the architect of our modern company. He introduced and fostered the “One Company” mindset throughout the company and established the strong governance and effective business strategy that has seen the company grow to more than 600 staff across Canada.

Many of Carol and Vince’s family joined then in Mexico to celebrate this wonderful milestone!
