Jerry Helfrich, PEng, from Associated Engineering’s Saskatchewan operation has been awarded the 2008 Lieutenant-Governor’s Meritorious Achievement Award. The award was established in 2002 by the Consulting Engineers of Saskatchewan and recognizes a Saskatchewan resident for outstanding contribution to the province’s consulting and geoscience industry.

Leonard Occhiogrosso, B.A., has joined our Toronto office as a Senior Transit Planner. Leonard has over 27 years experience in transit planning with the Toronto Transit Commission, Mississauga Transit, Guelph Transit, and as a consultant. Leonard has proven experience in all aspects of transit and transportation planning. He has been a member of various accessibility committees and is very knowledgeable in the Canadian and Ontario Disability Acts. He is also very familiar with automated transit scheduling and crewing software, fare and smart card technologies, as well as other smart bus ITS technologies. Leonard will lead the transit practice in Ontario.
Ben Gibson, CEng, MICE, has joined our Edmonton office as a Bridge Engineer. Ben has over 16 years of experience in the UK in the design and supervision of structural rehabilitation projects, including the replacement of bridges and other highway structures, as well as tender document preparation, site inspection and contract administration of other heavy civil projects. Ben is currently managing part of AE’s interests in the widening of Whitemud Drive – 149th Street to 53rd Avenue, which includes two bridge structures, the Quesnell Bridge over the North Saskatchewan River and the bridge carrying Whitemud Drive over Fox Drive.
Jessica Smith, M.Eng., CEng, MICE, has joined our Edmonton office as a Structural Engineer. She brings international experience in bridge, civil, and building projects. Her experience includes value engineering design, detailed design, tender documents preparation, site inspection, and project management. She has worked on a number of design-build projects overseas. Since joining AE, Jessica has been involved in the design of the Belgravia Trellis Bridge, the Quesnell Arched Secant Pile Retaining Wall, and the Fox Drive Overpass.
