Kerry Rudd, President & CEO of Associated Engineering is pleased to announce the appointment of Rod Karius, P Eng., as Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the Associated Engineering group of companies. This appointment rec- ognizes Rod’s contribution to the company over the past 34 years.

Rod joined Associated Engineering in 1975 after graduating from the University of Saskatchewan with a degree in civil engineering. Since joining the company, Rod has held positions of increasing responsibility, including Resident Engineer, Project Engineer, Project Manager, Branch Manager, and Vice President and General Manager of Associated Engineering’s Northern Alberta operation.

Anita Selinger wins the
Consulting Engineers of Alberta’s
Rising Young Professional Award

Anita SelingerAnita Selinger, P.Eng., of our Calgary office has been awarded the Consulting Engineers of Alberta’s (CEA) inaugural Rising Young Professional Award at the CEA Showcase Awards on February 13, 2009. With a well-rounded record of achievement in education, her profession, and public service, and as a mother of twins, Anita is a role model to other professionals on how to balance a successful career and family.

Anita received a diploma in chemical technology from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in 1992. After working seven years as a technologist, she returned to university and graduated with a degree in chemical engineering in 2003, receiving the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada Undergraduate Student Research Award.

Upon graduating, she joined Associated Engineering’s Calgary office as an Engineer-in-Training. Since joining Associated Engineering, Anita has worked on a number of water and wastewater projects. She is establishing herself as a specialist and is taking on roles of increasing responsibility. Anita was Project Engineer on the Waterton Lakes project which won an Award of Merit at the 2008 CEA Showcase Awards (see page 2 for article).

In 2004, Anita, with former co-worker Katherine Svercek, established Associated Engineering’s Young Professionals Group, creating the group’s mission, vision, goals, structure, and budget. Associated Engineering’s Young Professional Group became the model for the Consulting Engineers of Alberta’s Young Professionals Group.

An active volunteer, Anita is a mentor in Associated Engineering’s Mentoring Program, has mentored an engineering student, has judged for school science fairs, and volunteers in the Western Canada Water Association (WCW). She has participated in the WCW’s Government Affairs Committee and the Young Professionals Group. Currently, she is Chair of the Guest program for the 2010 Technology Transfer conference.

Through her dedication to her profession and the community, Anita exemplifies the qualities of a Rising Young Professional.
