Staff Appointments in BC
Martin Jobke, P.Eng., Vice President & General Manager of
Associated Engineering's BC operation, is pleased to announce the
following new appointments.
Sean Bolongaro, P.Eng., has been appointed Manager, Energy and
Environmental and will focus on renewable energy projects, as well
as liquid and solid waste management
planning. Sean is a senior mechanical
engineer with over 18 years experience in
the design of mechanical and electrical
systems for power generation, energy
recovery, water treatment, water supply,
and wastewater treatment. Sean has also
developed mechanisms for providing small
scale energy recovery in water pressure
systems. His work in this field has led to
the development of demonstration equipment
and innovative new approaches to
small hydro technology.
Steve Croxford, MIStructE., P.Eng., has been appointed as Manager,
Water and Wastewater. Steve has over 26 years experience in the
design and supervision of a wide range of
civil, industrial, and municipal projects.
Recently returning to our Burnaby office,
Steve's previous position was Manager,
Structures, for our Edmonton office. Steve
is well known for his project management
expertise. He was Structural Design Lead
for the $500 million secondary upgrade of
the Annacis and Lulu Island Wastewater
Treatment Plants for Metro Vancouver. He
currently has a similar role on the Iona
Wastewater Treatment Project Definition
Study for Metro Vancouver.
Dave Forgie, Ph.D., P.Eng., has been
appointed as Practice Leader,
Environmental. Dave is a Senior
Environmental Engineer with more than 29
years of experience in liquid and solid
waste management. Dave has been
involved in evaluation and design of both
large and small-scale wastewater treatment
plants. Dave specializes in biosolids
and solid waste management and odour
control. Dave's recent work includes leading-
edge evaluations of energy recovery
options at wastewater treatment plants.
Mark Porter, M.Eng., C.Eng., MIStructE.,
P.Eng., LEED®AP, has been appointed
Manager, Building Structural. He will
focus on structural projects, including civil
structures, and building infrastructure and
retrofit. Mark has over 13 years structural
engineering experience in the united
Kingdom and Canada on institutional,
industrial, and commercial projects. Mark
specializes in sustainable design and
building rehabilitation.
Kelowna office takes on larger facilities
The Kelowna office moved on September 21st, but not far. Still within the same complex of five Landmark buildings centrally located in Kelowna, the new address is:

Employee News
Clive Packham, B.Sc., has joined our Burnaby office as Practice Leader,
Transit in the Transportation Group. Clive brings with him over 20 years of
experience in project management, real-time communications, and signalling
and control software engineering. His track record includes several large
high-profile projects in North America and the UK, including SkyTrain ALRT
System Management Centre in Vancouver, and the Jubilee Line Signal
Control Centre and the Victoria Line Signalling upgrade for the London
underground.
Louie Ibalio, B.Sc., PMP, a Project Engineer with Associated Engineering's,
Edmonton office, has received his PMP designation. Louie is a civil
engineer with over 17 years experience in engineering, project management,
and construction. Louie's experience includes contracts, technical
specifications, and cost estimating. Since joining the company in 2008,
Louie has been involved in a number of bridge projects.
Saqib Khan, M.A.Sc., P.E., P.Eng., has passed the California Surveying
exam and is now registered in California as a Professional Civil Engineer.
Saqib has also fulfilled the essay requirement of the Northwest Territories
and has received his registration in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

B.C. Engineers receive LEED®
(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accreditation
Congratulations to Jason Vanderzwaag and Muna Khris from our Burnaby office, on receiving
certification as LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited
Professionals through the Canada Green Building Council.
Jason Vanderzwaag, M.A.Sc., P.Eng., LEED® AP is a civil engineer with over
7 years of engineering experience including First Nation Community infrastructure
works, highway drainage design, dyking and drainage design, water
resource engineering, and community development. Jason has worked on
several overseas projects in such places as Nicaragua, Guatemala, Costa
Rica, and Jamaica.
Muna Khris, B.Sc., LEED® AP is a building mechanical engineer with over 7
years of design experience in HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
Muna's recent experience at Associated Engineering includes the building
mechanical design of pump stations and odour control systems. She has
also performed energy audits and modelled projects to improve building
energy efficiency.
Bert Munro receives the AWWA Fullerton Award
The American Water Works Association
(AWWA) awarded Associated Engineering's
Bert Munro the George Warren Fullerton
Award in San Diego in June. The award recognizes
distinguished service in commemoration
of the sound engineering skill, brilliant
diplomatic talent, and constructive leadership
characterized by George Fuller. The award
was an honour and surprise for Bert, Vice
President and General Manager of
Saskatchewan operations. He says, "I was
truly humbled by the thought that my peers felt I was deserving." Congratulations, Bert.
