
Associated Engineering is pleased to announce that Malcolm Shield, P.Eng., Ph.D., PMP, GHG-IQ, has joined our Vancouver office as an Energy Planning and Emissions Specialist. He is a Mechanical Engineer with expertise in strategic energy planning and the greenhouse gas impacts of organizations’ energy choices. Malcolm specializes in community and organizational-scale energy and GHG modelling and accounting, and understanding the implications of planning for, and executing, decarbonization strategies.
In his role, Malcolm will provide company-wide support to our climate change-related technical practices that will now include climate science, adaptation and resiliency planning, and energy transition and emissions mitigation planning. Malcom holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with research conducted in natural gas combustion and he is also a CSA-certified GHG inventory quantifier.
Previously, Malcolm spent six years with the City of Vancouver as lead advisor to Mayor and Council, as well as executive leadership on all topics related to GHG emissions reduction. He developed the City’s community-wide renewable energy and decarbonization plan (the Renewable City Strategy), as well as their corporate Carbon Neutral Operations Strategy. Malcolm was subsequently seconded for three years to the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, an international non-profit advising the world’s largest cities on how to respond to climate change, as Head of Climate Action Planning, Europe & North America.
