Associated assessed the vulnerability of the existing and proposed Engineering Building at the University of Saskatchewan to climate change, applying the Public Infrastructure Engineering Vulnerability Committee (PIEVC) Risk Assessment Protocol. The project was a unique application of the PIEVC protocol on a future building.
The Van Kam terminal includes an 8500 square feet warehouse and 5000 square feet, two-storey office building. Associated's design of the office building leveraged the use of cross-laminated timber (CLT) for a cost-effective, robust structure. Our scope included design of structural, electrical and mechanical systems.
Associated provided electrical, lighting, and structural engineering services for the project. The lighting system uses a unique backup power system, which also allows departures in visibility conditions down to 366 m (1200 ft) where previously 763 m (2600 ft) was the limit.
Phase 2 of the Oliver Bowen Maintenance Facility included an extension to the building, track work, traction power, signals, and communication. Design and construction were completed with minimum distruption to the existing storage and maintenance operations.
NT Energy's liquefied natural gas plant provides fuel for electrical energy generation in Inuvik. The facility includes two 68,000 litre vertical LNG tanks. LNG vapourization is achieved through a ballasted heat exchanger. Waste heat from the generators is used to heat hot water that feeds the heat exchanger. Associated provided civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical design.
