The City of Lethbridge retained Associated Engineering to create an Energy Efficiency Master Plan and Strategy for asset and operational efficiencies across the City service lines including: Facility Services; Transit; Transportation; Fleet; Water, Wastewater, Stormwater; Electric; Waste & Recycling Services; Corporate Services; and Parks.
The City’s goal is to provide a road map detailing the necessary steps in achieving a 40% reduction in GHG emissions by 2030, excluding emissions reductions from the Alberta electrical grid coal phase-out.
A model of existing and projected future energy use and emissions for the City’s business units was created. New initiatives were grouped together into scenarios and compared with present day and business-as-usual benchmarks. The scenarios along with preliminary cost estimates will allow the City to choose their preferred path to reach the 2030 emissions targets.
