The City of Markham retained Associated Engineering to perform an HVAC condition assessment of the Main Yard Works Facility.
After the assessment was completed, we also complete a Feasibility Study to evaluate the financial and technical feasibility of installing a stand-by generator that would provide back-up power to the facility. This was motivated by the fact that the facility was without power for days following an ice storm in 2013. Without power, the facility was unable to fuel the City’s service vehicles, including its snow plow trucks, salters, and fire fighting trucks.

Project Highlights
At Associated, we believe we have a responsibility to understand the impacts of climate change, inform our clients about the risks to their infrastructure and communities, and assist them in developing infrastructure solutions that are both resilient and help mitigate the effects of climate change. The natural gas generator increases the resilience of this facility, and will allow the City to participate in the IESO’s Demand Response program, thus leading to operational savings.
After the feasibility study was completed, reviewed and discussed with the City, we were retained to provide detailed design and construction administration services for the installation of the new generator. A 250 kW Natural Gas Generator complete with sound enclosure and manual transfer switch (at the request of the City) was installed and commissioned.
