Management at its BEST
For fifteen consecutive years, Associated has been recognized as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies, earning Platinum membership status in this prestigious national program which recognizes the company’s strong business performance, innovation, growth, and dedication to staff. Our aspiration is to create solutions for a healthy, resilient world. Our commitment, through uncompromising support and service, is to earn our clients trust to collectively shape the quality of life, work, and travel.
Values
We stand by our VALUES
Our values guide us, inspiring ownership, stewardship, and ambition. With integrity and mutual respect, we strive to achieve our goals and earn trust. Embracing stewardship, we care for the environment and communities we serve. Fueled by ambition, we are passionate and determined to succeed. Our unwavering confidence drives us to accomplish remarkable goals, taking responsibility for each project as if we were its owner, and our integrity serves as a compass, supporting our aspirations and commitments.

Our CODE of CONDUCT
At Associated Engineering, we conduct business ethically and transparently, respecting cultural, social, and business contexts. We uphold integrity and respect customs and laws in the jurisdictions we operate in. Our commitment to ethical conduct is ingrained in our corporate culture and mission statement. Our comprehensive Code of Conduct outlines specific policies, procedures, and enforcement mechanisms, ensuring accountability in our day-to-day operations.

Governance
Associated Engineering understands that strong corporate governance is an essential element to business excellence and elevating our performance. Our operations are overseen by a Board of Directors comprising both independent and internal directors who bring experience and knowledge in consulting, finance, risk management, health and safety, and governance, and provide oversight and advice. We offer continuing education for our Board, delivered by governance experts. At every board meeting, we include presentations on our consulting and business practices. Our board participates in our strategic planning process, and provides oversight on our strategic plan and key performance indicators within our strategic plan. Annually, we conduct a board evaluation and look for opportunities for improvement.
Sustainability

A CARBON NEUTRAL company
We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint, and have been a carbon neutral company since 2009. To offset greenhouse gases produced by day-to-day business practices, we have invested in carbon offsets from a verified carbon retailer, ClimateCare. Our Edmonton head office as well as our Vancouver and Whitehorse offices are LEED buildings.
In 2016, we developed Climate Change Awareness Training. All staff take this 16 module training. On all our projects, we encourage our clients to evaluate and, as applicable, implement climate change mitigation and adaptation measures. Our goal is to collaborate with our clients to build more resilient and sustainable communities and, in doing so, shape a better future for everyone.
To ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns, Associated Engineering has both a Sustainable Purchasing Guideline and a Sustainable Materials Management Guideline which provide best practice guidelines to offices on both the purchasing and end-of-life principles and practices to be followed in consideration to office supplies, fixtures, and waste.

EcoAction
Each of our offices has an active EcoAction Committee, whose role is to improve environmental awareness, reduce office waste, and improve energy efficiencies. Some of the committee’s initiatives include office composting and recycling programs, annual Shoreline Cleanup events, and staff seminars that share green techniques and tips from their professional discipline.

Supporting COMMUNITIES
Associated Engineering has a long history of giving back to the communities in which we work and live. We contribute to local and national charities. In doing so, we create stronger and more resilient communities. Associated also gives back to our professional and technical communities. We support our staff who volunteer their time to technical and professional organizations. In addition, we support academic institutions through research, student capstone projects, and financial awards to students. Several of our staff lecture at their local academic institutions as adjunct professors and guest lecturers.
Indigenous Commitment

Advancing RECONCILIATION
Associated Engineering is committed to building positive and productive, mutually beneficial relationships with Indigenous Peoples, based on trust, understanding, and respect. We are committed to improving our understanding of Indigenous history, culture, and values, in order to improve our service to and relationships with Indigenous Peoples. In partnership with Indigenous Peoples, we are dedicated to taking action to advance reconciliation.
Our commitment is based on our long history of working with hundreds of Indigenous Communities on thousands of projects across Canada. We have collaborated with Indigenous Peoples to design and build facilities that have supported sustainable development and become ingrained in the fabric of their communities, including water and wastewater systems, roads and bridges, schools, and community and cultural gathering centres.

WORKING TOGETHER with Indigenous Communities
We are committed to improving our understanding of Indigenous history, culture, and values, so we can improve our service to and relationships with the Indigenous communities in which we work and the Indigenous Peoples who we partner with.
In support of this commitment, we have created an Indigenous Commitment Working Group and developed an Indigenous Commitment Policy and Action Plan.

Supporting FUTURE GENERATIONS
We have partnered with Indigenous companies and communities to assist us in delivering projects, and recruit Indigenous candidates for employment. Our staff provide presentations and mentorship to Indigenous children to encourage education in STEAM – science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. We have also committed to providing financial awards for Indigenous youth to support their post-secondary education.
As part of our Indigenous Commitment, provide education and training in Indigenous history, culture, and values. We have prepared a guide for staff to assist with Indigenous Engagement and Communication on projects. We proactively engage Indigenous Community Leaders, Elders, Knowledge-keepers on projects.
