The City of St. Albert is a vibrant and prosperous community with amenities that attract residents and professionals to live and work.
St. Albert and the surrounding region is facing many urban challenges as it tackles residential and economic growth. These challenges are apparent on every commuting day with increasing congestion and delay, motor vehicle collisions, and increasing demand by varying road user types.
To protect the livability and sustainability of the City and support its long term goals, Associated Engineering was retained to develop the St. Albert ITS Strategic Plan, which involved:
- a review of all background documents, traffic data, infrastructure, and an environmental scan of best practices
- development of a unique “ITS Primer” and questionnaire and a stakeholder workshop; the ITS Primer is an information brochure that explains the basic elements of ITS, how it works and the expected benefits
- guiding the Steering Committee through the process of developing these elements gives the ITS plan direction, and preparing key performance indicators
Project Highlights
The resulting ITS Strategic Plan provided St. Albert with the “roadmap” in support of its ITS and Smart City future. This key document, with the subsequent “St. Albert ITS Implementation Strategy”, were approved by City Council and the City has begun the process of deploying the first projects in the plan.
