The PotashCorp Playland at Kinsmen Park was completed in 2015. The existing park was significantly renovated, with the addition of a large number of attractions.
Associated Engineering performed full structural engineering design, detailing and construction administration services on the train station structure, concession stand building, as well as the concrete piled foundations for the ferris wheel and carousel.
The train station is a highly architectural structure comprising an exposed cross-laminated timber roof supported on architectural concrete columns and cladded wood-framed “fin” walls. Complex yet discreet steel connections were required in order to support the long spans of the cross-laminated timber roof structure. There is a glazed clerestory, and the swing gates and sliding doors around the perimeter can be opened or closed depending on the season. The station canopy structure and the waiting platform are supported on a concrete piled foundation.
