The City of Kelowna wanted to replace the existing Lakeshore Rd crossing of Bellevue Creek.
The new bridge provides additional space for cars, pedestrians, and cyclists. Given the existing abutments, and geotechnical stability, Associated developed a plan that would provide a new, wider crossing without modifications to the existing foundations. The wider bridge integrates with the existing parallel pedestrian bridge immediately to the east of the new structure, and maintains the vertical alignment and centreline of the current roadway.
The bridge crossing also incorporates a new watermain crossing of Bellevue Creek. And, as part of the construction, new protection works for Bellevue Creek were incorporated to minimize flood risk.
