Fort McMurray is the major Urban Service Area within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in Alberta.
To service the new development area of Saline Creek Plateau, the need for improvements to the existing Highway 69 was identified. Highway 69 begins at the intersection of Highway 63 and continues east past the airport to the CN Rail Lynton Terminal. Highway 69 is a municipal road within the Urban Service Area, but reverts to a provincial highway east of the Urban Service Area.
Project Highlights
Associated Engineering completed the preliminary engineering, detailed design and construction administration for Highway 69 Improvements. This has been completed through two separate Contracts. Contract 1, from Hwy 63 to West of Saline Creek (2.1 km) and Contract 2, from East of Saline Creek to Saline Creek Parkway at the airport (3.5 km). Contract 2 includes three major intersections that are all signalized and all accommodate double left turns.
