The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo operates the Hamlet of Fort Chipewyan’s Water Treatment Plant which provides drinking water to the community, and retained Associated Engineering to complete a pre-design study. The study evaluated the capacity and performance of the Water Treatment Plant for current and future demand requirements and recommended critical upgrades to the water supply system.

We completed several studies to establish the optimal technical solution for addressing the community’s needs. After the studies were reviewed, the Municipality decided to proceed with upgrading the Water Treatment Plant, which included:

  • Detailed design of the water treatment plant and pipeline upgrades
  • Contract documents & Tender support
  • Construction Engineering Service

The project was tendered in two phases. Phase 1 included the raw and outfall pipelines, and associate electrical and civil works. Phase 2 included the new Water Treatment Plant (new treatment equipment, clearwell, building and associated mechanical, HVAC, electrical, instrumentation, and control systems), demolition, decommission and upgrading of the existing Water Treatment Plant, distribution pumphouse and intake pumphouse.
