The City of St. Albert owns and operates three primary water supply facilities, the Oakmont Reservoir and Pump Station, the Sturgeon Heights Reservoir and Pump Station, and the Lacombe Park Reservoir and Pump Station.
The new Erin Ridge development area, located north of Oakmont, necessitated discussions on capacity upgrades required at the Oakmont Facility, in order to serve the domestic and fire flow requirements of the new development.
In 2013, the City retained Associated Engineering to manage the upgrade process. The deliverables included: population and water demand growth projections, fire storage and fire flow requirement calculations, distribution network modelling review, a pre-design report for the upgrades, development of a project management plan, and creation of the RFP for the vertical turbine pumps.

Project Highlights
To provide the recommended 10-year water demands, we recommended that the Oakmont Reservoir and Pump Station be upgraded to a new pump configuration consisting of four 160 L/s 250 HP pumps, and two 70 L/s 125 HP pumps.
