The City of Edmonton’s “The Way We Move” Transportation Master Plan envisions expansion of the LRT network to reach all sectors of the City.
The City’s next expansion phase of the LRT, known as the Valley Line, runs from Mill Woods in southeast Edmonton through the downtown core, with a final destination at Lewis Farms in west Edmonton. The entire Valley Line route is approximately 27 kilometres in length, but is broken up into two stages, with the dividing point at 102 Street in the downtown core.

Valley Line LRT – Stage 1 is 13 km long extending from 102 Street Stop to Mill Woods Town Centre. This southeast portion of the line has 11 at-grade neighbourhood stops and one above-grade station, the Davies Station. The line will integrate directly into existing communities, with an initial projected daily ridership of 31,500 passengers, increasing to 42,000 by 2044. Key structures include a tunnel connecting downtown Edmonton to the River Valley, a new River Bridge crossing the North Saskatchewan River and an Operations and Maintenance Facility.
The Valley Line LRT is being delivered under a Public-Private Partnership (P3) for an estimated cost of $1.8 billion and is expected to open at the end of 2020. The project is delivered under the joint venture group “TransEd Team”. Associated Engineering is a sub-consultant on the TransEd Partners consortium. The project is broken down into 7 areas. Associated Engineering’s scope of work is to provide engineering services for all civil related activities in Areas 1, 2 and 6, which include roadway design, drainage design, and utility design. Associated Environmental is also responsible for providing Environmental Services and Regulatory Permitting throughout the entire project limits (Areas 1 through 7).
