Associated Engineering in partnership with EIDOS Consultants Incorporated (urban design) and Armin A. Preiksaitis & Associates (land use planning and economic development), was retained by the Town of Sylvan Lake to complete a conceptual design plan for the redevelopment of Lakeshore Drive between Wildrose Drive and 34 Street.
Associated provided transportation and municipal infrastructure services.
The ultimate goal of the Lakeshore Drive Redevelopment Project is to establish a legacy for Sylvan Lake that supports a vibrant, diverse, attractive and well-planned environment for both residents and visitors.
Project Highlights
Based on the analysis of existing conditions, guiding principles were formed to redevelop and realign Lakeshore Drive as a ‘Complete Street’, with an integrated roadway, promenade and open space system that promotes year-round pedestrian-oriented activity and movement; safety and security; barrier-free accessibility; a sustainable parking and shuttle bus system strategy; compatibility with existing and future land use; the preservation of the natural resources along the lakeshore; multi-modal use; gateway, node, and way-finding development; a healthy and active community lifestyle; a strong and authentic sense of place that celebrates the Town and regions history, culture and traditions; and an animated waterfront area with opportunities to shop, live, work, gather and do business.
