Western Copper and Gold is proposing to develop a copper-molybdenum-gold mine at their Casino Mine property, which is located 250 kilometres northwest of Carmacks, YT.
Access to the mine site is currently limited to fixed-wing and helicopter, or seasonally via a barge and a short access road. An all-season road is needed to facilitate mine construction and operations, including the transportation of the end products from the mine (copper, gold and molybdenum concentrates) out to the public road system.
Project Highlights
Associated Engineering completed a number of assignments for Western Copper and Gold, including the Casino Mine Access Road (Freegold Extension). The work included the preliminary design of the proposed 130 km/hr route to a 70 km/hr design standard. Conceptual designs were also completed for 21-bridge crossings. Additional field work was completed to field truth ground conditions, carry out topographic site surveys, confirm route assumptions, and geotechnical concerns such as permafrost and slope stability through steep terrain.
