In 2012, the Town of Minnedosa began discussions with Manitoba Housing to develop a community housing project that would the first of its kind in Manitoba.
Deviating from the more typical high density housing template, Manitoba Housing sought to develop a more community friendly residential housing project. The project entailed 16 stand-alone homes arranged in three cul-du-sacs off of a main entrance road. The homes are pre-manufactured Ready-To-Move units placed on a cast in place basement foundation.
During conceptualization of the project, the Town retained Associated Engineering to provide the municipal infrastructure development standards for the project, as well as budget pricing for the civil underground and surface works. Once the project was given the go-ahead by Manitoba Housing, we also provided a Land Drainage Plan, as well as detailed design, tendering and construction administration for the water, sewer and road works for the development site.

Project Highlights
The design of the Land Drainage Plan was challenging due to the significant elevation changes across the small site. In accordance with Provincial Regulations, most of the surface water run-off had to be contained and directed to the Town’s drainage ditches, with minimal runoff to the neighbouring properties. With a series of drainage swales with storm retention and land drainage sewers, the site was able to be drained by gravity without the need for a pump station.
The new potable water and gravity sewer system was connected to the Town’s existing infrastructure. The new road design included concrete curb and gutter with asphalt surfacing.
