The City of Medicine Hat Environmental Utilities expressed interest in adding solar photovoltaic systems to provide electrical power at several existing potable water reservoir sites.

The solar systems would provide a renewable source of energy for the local pump stations, as well as export to the utility grid for community use. Associated Engineering performed a feasibility study of installing solar power generation at the sites.

After the collection of data, development of conceptual solar array layouts and analysis, the study concluded that four sites can support solar arrays varying between 120 kW and 250 kW AC each. If installed, the anticipated solar production from the four sites together would be 1,350,000 kWH per year. This is the amount of energy required to power approximately 175 southern Alberta homes.
