NOR•EX Engineering provided ice engineering services for a planned winter cargo delivery program at Milne Inlet on Baffin Island.
Plans involved options to land an Antonov An-124 cargo plane on ice and the offshore unloading of an icebreaking cargo ship to deliver several large ore hauling tractor/trailer units (53,000 kg each). We provided planning, ice engineering designs, ice safety, quality assurance, quality control, and GPR profiling for an ice runway and a cargo offload ice pad with a connecting ice road to shore. The project team conducted feasibility assessments (including on site ice integrity inspection) and ice design work.
