Associated Engineering provided professional consulting engineering services for the replacement of the Sucker River Bridge.
The Lac La Ronge Indian Band Sucker River Reserve 156C is located 33 kilometres north of La Ronge, SK. The community is divided by the Nemeiben River.
The original bridge was a 53.7 metre-long, 10 span timber bridge that was built in 1958 by the Department of Natural Resources. The bridge underwent numerous repairs to maintain vehicle traffic, but was closed to vehicles in 2002 and permanently closed to pedestrians in 2014. In 2008, we prepared a preliminary design report for the replacement of the existing bridge. This report considered two options including a clear span, three span, and two span for the construction of a new single lane bridge with an adjacent pedestrian lane.
We recommended the clear span option as the most cost-effective option for replacement of the existing bridge with a similar single lane traffic bridge. The work involved demolishing the existing 10 span timber bridge and replacing it with 7.1 metre wide x 55.9 metre long steel girder bridge and associated roadwork.
