The Region of Peel determined as part of their Water and Wastewater Master Plan, that 5.6km of the existing trunk sanitary sewer between Queen Street and Highway 407 needed to be twinned to address existing and future capacity issues servicing the Town of Caledon and Brampton East developments.
The Region retained Associated Engineering to complete a Schedule “B” Environmental Assessment, detailed design and construction phase services for the twinning of the existing trunk sanitary sewer which consists of approximately 5.6 km of 1500, 1650 and 1800mm diameter trunk sanitary sewer. The alignment is located between the intersection of Queen Street and Goreway Drive to south of Highway 407 and Steeles Avenue and includes three creek crossings, a crossing of the 407ETR and a CN Rail Crossing.
Project Highlights
The design allows the existing main to remain in operation until the appropriate connections to the new system can be made. Included are three trunk sewer mains, four forcemains and six branch connections. The tendered design included 3000m of open cut installation and 2600m of trenchless installation for the new trunk sanitary sewer. The trenchless design includes microtunneling techniques.
The design incorporates early roll out of the Region’s new sanitary sewer design standards including requirements for pressure testing of the sewer line and implementation of other improved waterproofing techniques to reduce I&I.
