Paul First Nation retained Associated Environmental, in partnership with Integral Ecology Group, to conduct a Community Lands Engagement Study, complete a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA), and create an Environmental Issues Inventory (EII).
Paul First Nation is located 70 kilometres west of Edmonton and bordering Wabamun Lake, has been significantly impacted by decades of industrial activities, including coal mining, fly ash pits, and the CN Rail line.
The project aimed to understand the community’s environmental concerns and identify areas requiring further investigation. Through community engagement meetings and the Community Lands Engagement Study, the team documented ecological history, environmental changes, stressors to the landscape, changes to traditional harvesting of food resources and medicinal plants, wildlife corridors, water quality, and other related concerns.
